The true cost of using 118118 to obtain a telephone number!

Recently while using the 118118 service to obtain the telephone number of a local hotel and to be connected, I ended up paying £8.79 for a 1 minute 27 second call!

Having highlighted these excessive charges on social networking sites, I have been promised money back and I received this reply:

Hello Aled,

Thank you for your recent correspondencel.

You have been more than gracious in your understanding of how the service works and we do value your custom.

Thus a goodwill gesture refund for £8.00 is on its way to your door. Please allow up to 28 days for delivery.

My apologies for any inconvenience caused and thank you for bringing this matter to our attention.

In future you could try our alternative services, such as 118 811 which is a fixed £1.00 charge from a landline for simple, single number enquires. 0800 118 FREE for entirely free calls.  Text enquiry responses cost £3.50, while 118.com is free to use. You would however have to contact your service provider to see if they put additional access charge costs on top of these services but I do hope they are helpful.

If you have any further questions please feel free to contact me again.

Kind regards,

Roxan

The best advice therefore is to visit their web site 118.com and obtain the service free of charge or so they tell me!

The objective of this blog titled Money Matters Makes Economic Sense is to provide basic but yet important information, with regards to basic economics and common sense with regards to financial matters!

Unfortunately for far too long our antiquated education system ignored the value and benefits of teaching young people within the education system the basics of sound economics!

Consequently as a result, our young people and indeed the majority of us are vulnerable to the financial organisations and businesses taking advantage of our ignorance and naive attitude towards finance. As a result stores, credit card companies and the banks have been taking us to the cleaners for years!

But now, finally, thanks to the pioneering work of crusaders such as Martin Lewis and his excellent and informative website www.moneysavingexpert.com the ordinary consumer has the opportunity to take matters into their own hands, being finally free from the negative and destructive influence of the major companies and financial institutions!

As the saying goes 'Knowledge is Power', but it should be added 'only if you put it into practice!'

My mission is to provide people with the right sort of information, designed to help people save money on a wide range of everyday items, be aware of the latest bargains so your money goes further, as well as giving you basic lessons on economic principles that should provide you with financial security and independence!

I should state categorically at this point that I do not consider myself to be a financial expert, or possess any qualifications in the professional sense. The information that I will impart is based on years of learning the hard way, having been foolish enough to put my faith in other people and organizations, who
I thought were experts in the field and discovering that common sense is really not that common!

Today I always question information imparted by so called experts, very much aware that they are primarily concerned with their interests and not yours! Nowadays I conduct my own research and educate myself, so that I can take decisions designed to look after my own interests!

Therefore, I hope that you will join me on this voyage of discovery as I provide you with economic sense lessons and discussions, as well as news about the latest bargains and ways of making your money go further in this mad world of ours!
